Rabjam Rinpoche was born in 1966. The grandson of Kyabje Dilgo Khyentyse Rinpoche, he was recognised by the XVIth Gyalwa Karmapa as the VIIth incarnation of Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, abbot of Shechen and one of the spiritual Masters of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche used to recount that one day, during a pilgrimage to Nepal, after the communist invasion, he had a dream concerning his three principal Masters, all of whom had died in Chinese prisons. When he told them that he wished to rejoin them soon in the Buddhafields, they replied that he should continue his activities for the sake of all beings, and that in order to help him, all three would merge into one single rebirth. Rabjam Rinpoche was born soon afterwards.

Rabjam Rinpoche was raised by his grandfather from the age of five and received from then until the latter’s departure, almost his entire teachings and transmissions. At the age of twenty-five, he took on the direction of the Shechen monasteries in Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, as well as the construction of the monastery of Bodhgaya. More recently, Rinpoche decided to consecrate a significant part of his time and also the resources of the monastery to humanitarian works (clinics, schools, centres for children..) in Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet.
